Many of you have seen websites or perhaps you have one yourself that allows visitors to subscribe to newsletters from your blog.  When your visitors enter their email address on your newsletters submission form, they can receive emails when you publish new posts or even send out newsletters. We have a newsletter subscription form at the bottom right side of our page here. Take a look. It pops right up if you click on “Follow.”

Although, you might think that having a feedburner account is enough, it actually isn’t.  Here’s how you get this little puppy to actually function properly.

Most plugins, widgets, or gadgets already have everything properly coded so that all you have to do is post your FeedBurner ID.

Where do you find your FeedBurner ID and FeedBurner URL?

1. Make sure you register for an account with http://feedburner.google.com

2. To find your FeedBurner ID, login to your account and the first page you will be taken is your “My Feeds” page.  Click on the feed for your blog and take a look at your URL.  It should look something like this:  http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/dashboard?id=1t164klrhbv3bhokh61pcjrt6o. See the set of characters after id=? Copy it. Your FeedBurner ID should be similar to this: 1t164klrhbv3bhokh61pcjrt6o

3. To find your FeedBurner URL, click on the feed for your blog, which should also be found in your “My Feeds” page.  On the top of the page, click on the link that says “Edit Details

Then copy your Feed Address. Should look like this: http://feeds.feedburner.com/voiceboks/parenthood.

Set up your Email Subscriptions

Now, before your email subscriptions can work, you have to make sure it’s activated in your FeedBurner. Here’s how to do it:

1. Go back to the page after you choose the blog link from you “My Feeds” page.   You should find these tabs:

2. Click on the “Publicize” tab.

3. Click on “Email Subscriptions” on the left sidebar.

4. Click on the “Activate” link (see below).

5. You will be taken to the Subscription Management page, where you need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and make sure you click on the “Save” button. Otherwise, you might get the error “The feed does not have subscriptions by email enabled.”  A lot of people make the mistake of neglecting to take the extra step to click this “Save” button and spend hours trying to figure out what they’ve done wrong.
